Trope MC Privacy Policy

TropeMC.org and the Trope MC mobile application (the “App”) is operated by Trope MC LLC (sometimes referred to as “we,” “our” or “Trope MC” hereinafter). Trope MC has created this Privacy Policy to demonstrate our firm commitment to the privacy of our visitors and Members. Trope MC is committed to respecting your privacy and recognizing your need for appropriate protection and management of personally identifiable information you share with us (the phrases “personally identifiable information” and “personal information” mean any information by which you, individually, can be identified, such as your name, address, telephone number, etc.). The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to inform you when you visit our App how we use such information.
This Privacy Policy also governs the collection, use, transfer, and processing of your personal information. By using the App, you consent to our Privacy Policy set out below. All terms not defined in this document have the meaning ascribed to in the Terms and Conditions located at https://tropemc.org/terms-and-conditions/
A Special Notice about Children. The App and Service are intended for adults 18 years of age and older only. Children (under the age of 18) are not eligible to use the App or the Service, and we ask that children do not submit any personal information to us. If you are under age 18, you may not, under any circumstances or for any reason, use the Service or the App. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18 years of age. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will take reasonable steps to delete such information and, where applicable, terminate any associated Member Account.
General. In general, you may visit the App without telling us who you are or revealing any of your personal information. Even if you do not create a Member Account with us, we still collect all information that you submit to us, including any personal information you submit, via our Contact page. Whether or not you choose to provide personal information is entirely up to you. We may also track the domain address from which you visit the App through cookies (see “Cookies” Section below). In the event you do create a Member Account with us, the manner in which we will collect and use your information is set forth below.
Information We Collect. The information we gather enables us to personalize, improve and continue to operate the Service. In connection with certain aspects of the Service, we may request, collect and/or display some of your personal information. We collect the following types of information from our Members.
Account Information. When you create a Member Account, you will provide information that could be personal information, such as your name, username, password, email address, profile picture, date of birth, and location. We use your date of birth to determine whether you are eligible to use the Service. Our systems automatically block registration attempts from individuals whose date of birth indicates they are under 18 years of age. By creating a Member Account and providing your date of birth, you represent and warrant that the information you provide is true, accurate, current, and complete. We may also collect this same information if you choose to create a Member Account through your Google credentials. You acknowledge that this information may be personal to you, and by creating a Member Account on the Service and providing personal information to us, you allow others, including us, to identify you and therefore may not be anonymous. We may use your contact information to send you information about our Service, but only rarely when we feel such information is important. You may unsubscribe from these messages through your Member Account settings, although we, regardless, reserve the right to contact you when we believe it is necessary, such as for Member Account recovery purposes.
Age Verification and Enforcement. As part of our age‑gating measures, we collect and use your date of birth during the registration process to confirm that you are 18 years of age or older. After entering your date of birth and accepting our Terms and Conditions, you will be presented with a confirmation screen stating that by proceeding you confirm you are 18 years of age or older. If the date of birth you provide indicates that you are under 18, your registration will be blocked and you will not be able to create a Member Account.
If we later learn or have reason to believe that you are under 18 years of age, including because you state or suggest this within the App (for example, in Society Forums, Profile Prompts, Secret Societies, Direct Messages, or any other feature), or because we receive a report from another user, we will promptly suspend or terminate your Member Account and take appropriate steps to delete or anonymize your personal information, subject to any legal obligations to retain certain data. Providing false information about your age or otherwise misrepresenting that you are 18 or older when you are not is a violation of our Terms and Conditions and may result in the immediate removal of your account.
Location. We may collect, use, and process personal information about your location in connection with your use of the Service, including the Events feature. Depending on your mobile device’s privacy settings and permissions we may collect (i) precise location data, such as your mobile device’s real time geographic location, and (ii) approximate data location such as your general location derived from your IP address or unique mobile identifier. We use location information for purposes including but not limited to displaying Events relevant to your geographic area, enabling you to search and discover Events, facilitating connections and interactions between Members, and improving the Service. We may also share location information with our Agents or service providers that assist in operating the App. You may enable or disable location services at any time through your mobile device settings. We retain location information only for as long as necessary to fulfill our Service.
Subscriptions. If you choose to make a purchase a Subscription to access certain features of the Service, you allow us to collect personal information such as your name, address, email address, and phone number. We will use this information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Financial Information. Trope MC does not collect, process, or store any payment card information, and does not operate its own payment platform. All purchases of Subscriptions and Superbooks are billed and processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, using the payment method you have on file with Apple or Google. Trope MC never receives or has access to your card number, expiration date, or other card details. RevenueCat, our subscription management provider, receives only your email address, an internal user alias, and purchase/subscription status (e.g., which plan you purchased and whether it is active) via a webhook from the App Store or Google Play — it does not process or store your payment card details either. For any questions about a charge, refund, or your stored payment method, please contact Apple or Google directly, as Trope MC does not have access to that information.
Member Content. Some features of the Service allow you to provide Content to the Service. All Content submitted by you to the Service may be retained by us indefinitely, even after you terminate your Member Account. We may continue to disclose such content to third parties in a manner that does not reveal personal information, as described in this Privacy Policy.
IP Address Information and Other Information Collected Automatically. We automatically receive and record information from your web or mobile browser when you interact with the Service, including your IP address and cookie information. This information is used for fighting spam/malware and also to facilitate collection of data concerning your interaction with the Service (e.g., what links you have clicked on).
Generally, the Service automatically collects usage information, such as which parts of the App you use and the number and frequency of visitors to the App. We may use this data in a manner that would identify you personally. This type of data enables us and third parties authorized by us to figure out how often individuals use parts of the Service so that we can analyze and improve them.
Email Confirmation. We may receive a confirmation when you open an email from us. We use this confirmation to improve our customer service.
Aggregate Information. We collect statistical information about how both unregistered users and registered Members, collectively, use the Service (“Aggregate Information”). Some of this information is derived from personal information. While Aggregate Information is not personal information, it may be tied back to you, your Member Account or your we or mobile browser.

Cookies. The App may use cookie technology to improve the quality of your experience. A cookie is a small file that contains information sent by a website or mobile application that is saved on your hard disk by your computer’s or mobile device’s browser. Cookies store information that a website or mobile application may need in order to personalize your experience and gather website statistical data. Any time you visit the App to browse, or to read or download information, cookies may collect and store the name of the domain and host from which you access the Internet (for example, msn.com, aol.com, etc.); the Internet protocol (IP) address of the computer or mobile device you are using; the browser software you use and your operating system; the date and time you access the App; and the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to the App. We may use this information to measure the number of visitors or Members to areas of the App, and to help us make the App more useful and interesting to our visitors or Members. Generally, we may use cookies to gather statistical information about the App such as App visiting patterns to help target advertisements based on Member interests. If we use information from cookies, it will only be in the aggregate to analyze trends and statistics.
Some consumers may not know that cookies are being placed on their computers when they visit websites or mobile applications. If you want to know when this happens, or to prevent it from happening, you can set your browser to advise you when a website or mobile application attempts to place a cookie on your computer or mobile device.
Information about Children and Reports from Other Users. As noted above, the App and Service are not intended for individuals under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. However, because users may misrepresent their age online, it is possible that some minors may attempt to use the Service. We provide in‑App reporting tools and contact channels that allow users to report accounts they believe belong to individuals under 18 years of age or otherwise violate our age requirements.
When we receive a report that a Member may be under 18, we will review the information available to us (including any statements made in that Member’s Content) and may suspend or terminate the Member Account while we investigate. If we determine that the Member is under 18, we will close the account and take reasonable steps to delete or anonymize the personal information associated with that account, subject to our legal obligations to retain certain records (for example, for fraud prevention, security, or compliance purposes).
Information We Share. The Service is designed to help you share information with others. As a result, some of the information generated through the Service is shared publicly or with third parties. In addition, where we determine that a Member is under 18 years of age, we may share limited information with service providers or app‑store partners as necessary to enforce our 18+ eligibility rules, prevent further access by that individual, and comply with our legal obligations, and we will take reasonable steps to delete or anonymize the personal information associated with that Member, as described in this Privacy Policy.
Public Information about Your Activity on the Service. Some of your activity on and through the Service is public by default. This may include, but is not limited to, Content you have posted publicly on the App or otherwise through the Service.
Members may have some of this information associated with their Member Accounts.
Please also remember that if you choose to provide personal information using certain public features of the Service, then that information is governed by the privacy settings of those particular features and may be publicly available. Individuals reading such information may use or disclose it to other individuals or entities without our control and without your knowledge, and search engines may index that information. We, therefore, urge you to think carefully about including any specific information you may deem private in content that you create or information that you submit through the Service.
IP Address Information. While we collect and store IP address information, that information is not made public. We do at times, however, share this information with our partners, service providers and other persons with whom we conduct business, and as otherwise specified in this Privacy Policy.
Information You Elect to Share. You may access other Third-Party Services through the Service, for example by clicking on links to those Third-Party Services from within the App. We are not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices of these Third-Party Services, and you are responsible for reading and understanding those Third-Party Services’ privacy policies. This Privacy Policy only governs information collected on the Service.
Aggregate Information. We share Aggregate Information with our partners, service providers and other persons with whom we conduct business. We share this type of statistical data so that our partners can understand how and how often people use our Service and their services or websites, which facilitates improving both their services and how our Service interfaces with them. In addition, these third parties may share with us non-private, aggregated or otherwise non-personal information about you that they have independently developed or acquired.
Email Communications with Us. As part of the Service, you may occasionally receive email and other communications from us, such as communications relating to your Member Account, or Trope MC promotions. Communications relating to your Member Account will only be sent for purposes important to the Service, such as password recovery.
Member Account Information. Member Account information, including your name and other information you enter, may be displayed to other Members to facilitate member interaction within the Service. We will not directly reveal Member email addresses to other Members.
Information Shared with Our Agents. We may employ and contract with people and other entities that perform certain tasks on our behalf and who are under our control (our “Agents”). We may need to share personal information with our Agents in order to provide products or the Service to you. Unless we tell you differently, our Agents do not have any right to use personal information or other information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us. You hereby consent to our sharing of personal information with our Agents.
Information Disclosed for Our Protection and the Protection of Others. We also reserve the right to access, read, preserve, and disclose any information as we reasonably believe is necessary to (i) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, (ii) enforce this Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions, including investigation of potential violations hereof, (iii) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues, (iv) respond to Member support requests, or (v) protect our rights, property or safety, our Members and the public. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and spam/malware prevention.
Information from App Stores and AgeVerification Providers. If you download or access the App through a thirdparty app store (such as the Apple App Store or Google Play Store), those app stores may implement their own ageverification or parentalconsent processes, particularly in jurisdictions that have adopted appstore accountability or similar childonlinesafety laws. In some cases, the app store or an associated ageverification provider may share limited information with us, such as an age category or an indicator that parental consent has been granted or revoked, so that we can enforce our 18+ eligibility rules and comply with applicable law.
We use this information solely for the purposes of determining your eligibility to access the Service, enforcing our 18+ age requirement, and complying with our legal obligations. For example, if an app store notifies us that you are under 18 or that parental consent has been revoked, we may suspend or terminate your Member Account and restrict your access to the Service.
Information We Share with Your Consent. Except as set forth above, you will be notified when your personal information may be shared with third parties and will be able to prevent the sharing of this information.
Information You Can Access. If you are a registered Member, you can access information associated with your Member Account by logging into the Service. Registered members and unregistered users can access and delete cookies through their web or mobile browser settings.
California Privacy Rights. Under California Civil Code sections 1798.83-1798.84, California residents are entitled to ask us for a notice identifying the categories of personal customer information which we share with our affiliates and/ or third parties for marketing purposes and providing contact information for such affiliates and/or third parties. GPDR. Our Data Protection Officer is responsible for overseeing what we do with your information and monitoring our compliance with data protection laws.

In accordance with Article 27 of the GDPR, as Trope MC LLC is not established in the European Union but offers its services to, and monitors the behaviour of, individuals located in the European Union, Trope MC LLC has designated the following EU representative and Data Protection Officer (“DPO”) as the point of contact for data protection matters for users located in the EEA: LETSLAW, S.L., with registered address at Paseo de la Castellana, 116, Esc. 116, 28046 Madrid, Spain, contact person José María Baños (CEO), email admin@letslaw.es.
Service Providers and Data Processors. We share personal information with the following categories of service providers, acting as data processors on our behalf: Google LLC, Apple Inc., Sentry, RevenueCat, Inc., Pusher Limited, RapidAPI, Expo, and Laravel Nightwatch. Our servers and databases are hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in the European Economic Area. Each of these providers is contractually bound to process personal information only on our instructions and to implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures. Trope MC does not use, and its app and website do not integrate, any advertising or cross-app tracking technology, and does not request Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission.
Social Login. In addition to registering with your email address, you may create an account or sign in using “Sign in with Google” or “Sign in with Apple.” If you use one of these options, we receive the email address and, where provided, the name associated with your Google or Apple account, in order to create and authenticate your Trope MC account.
Push Notifications. We send push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android) and Apple Push Notification service – APNs (iOS), using the notification token generated by your device. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.
Device Information. When you use the app, we automatically collect and store on our own servers your device identifier (IDFV on iOS, Android ID on Android), device brand and model, operating system version, language settings, and push notification token.
Location Information. If you grant permission, we collect your device’s location on the Events screen in order to show you nearby Events and to let you create Events with an address. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings, which may limit this functionality.
Photos. With your permission, we access your device’s camera or photo gallery so that you can upload photos to your profile.
Profiling for the Matching Algorithm. We use the following information, stored solely on our own servers and not shared with third parties, to operate the matching/recommendation algorithm that determines which profiles are shown to you: profiles shown to you, likes given and received, Matches, and affinity/compatibility scores calculated between users, together with the trope, Premium status, gender, preferred gender, and reading habits you provide or that we infer from your activity. This constitutes a form of profiling under the GDPR. This profiling helps determine the order and selection of profiles shown to you within the Service, but does not produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affect you, and does not result in decisions being made about you without human involvement if you contact us to contest a Match-related outcome.
Book Search. Our book discovery feature is powered by the Goodreads API, accessed through RapidAPI. When you search for a book within the app, the text of your search query is sent to this provider to retrieve results, and our servers periodically update book information from this source. Book cover images may be loaded directly from Goodreads, Amazon, or Google Books. If any book link shown in the app is an affiliate link, this will be indicated next to the link.
Transactional Emails. We send transactional emails generated by our server in connection with your Member Account, namely: a welcome email upon registration, a password-reset code, a notice if your account is banned or suspended, and a confirmation when your account is deleted. See “Marketing Communications; Promotional Emails” in our Terms and Conditions for the additional categories of email communications you may receive once those features are made available.
External Links. The app contains links that open outside of the app, including banner links, “Take a look” links in the book gallery, news links, links to the Apple App Store and Google Play, and map links. These external destinations are not operated by Trope MC, and we encourage you to review their own privacy practices before providing any information to them. Banners and in-app promotions are managed directly by Trope MC through our own backoffice and do not use any third-party advertising technology or measure impressions or clicks through third parties.
International Data Transfers. Trope MC LLC is established in the United States. Where personal information of users located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland is transferred to Trope MC LLC or to service providers located outside of those territories, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognized under the GDPR, including the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure that your personal information continues to benefit from an adequate level of protection. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguards by contacting us using the details provided in this Privacy Policy.
Legal Basis for Processing (EEA Users). If you are located in the EEA, we process your personal information on the following legal bases: (i) performance of a contract, to provide you with the Service and Subscriptions you request; (ii) consent, for Marketing Communications, cookies that are not strictly necessary, and other processing where we ask for your consent; (iii) legitimate interests, for purposes such as improving and securing the Service, preventing fraud, and Aggregate Information analysis, provided such interests are not overridden by your rights; and (iv) compliance with a legal obligation, where applicable.
Opt Out. You may “Opt Out” of having your personal information shared by providing us written notice identifying which communications you choose not to receive by writing us an email at contact@trope.org. If you terminate your Member Account, any association between your Member Account and information we store will no longer be accessible through your Member Account. However, given the nature of sharing on the Service, any public activity on your Member Account prior to deletion will remain stored on our servers and will remain accessible to the public.
Information Retention. Your personal information will be retained by us for as long as we operate the App, unless you have requested that your personal information be removed as set forth herein, or unless we are required to delete or anonymize your information sooner under this Privacy Policy (for example, when we determine that a Member is under 18 years of age). When those purposes come to an end, we shall securely delete the personal information unless the retention of the personal data is required for archiving purposes in accordance with Article 89(1) of the GDPR or other applicable provisions under the Data Protection legislation.

Your Rights. In relation to the personal information which we hold about you, you are entitled to:
- see a copy of the information;
- ask us to rectify the information where it is inaccurate or is incomplete. If we agree the information is inaccurate or incomplete and make the rectification, we will inform any recipients of the information of the change, where possible;
- ask us to erase the information, but we will not be able to comply where we hold your information to fulfill our statutory regulatory and representative obligations;
- ask us to restrict what we do with your information, but there are a number of exemptions relating to this right;
- object to our use of your information and ask us to stop that use, in certain circumstances; and
- instruct us to provide you with the information we hold about you in a structured and commonly used format or transmit that information directly to another organization.
Our obligations to comply with the above rights are subject to certain exemptions.
Where we are using some of your personal information because you have provided your consent to that use, you are entitled to withdraw your consent at any time. The lawfulness of our use of your personal information before consent was withdrawn is not affected. You can do this by writing an email through our web’s contact form https://tropemc.org/contact/
Third-Party Hosting. We may contract with third parties to maintain and host the App. Any information you submit to us, including personal information, may be placed and stored on a computer server maintained by this third-party host.
App Technologies. Trope MC does not provide the technologies used to build the App, and therefore, neither recommends nor endorses the same. Any information regarding identified technologies, including their capabilities limitations, and applications, should be sought directly from their manufacturers. Trope MC hereby disclaims any rights to trademarks, service marks, trade names, logos, copyrights, patents, domain names, or other intellectual property interests of third parties.
Third Parties and Links to Other Materials. This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that we do not own or control, including but not limited to any third-party websites, services and applications (“Third-Party Services”) that you elect to access through the Service or to individuals that we do not manage or employ. While we attempt to facilitate access only to those Third-Party Services that share our respect for your privacy, we cannot take responsibility for the content or privacy policies of those Third-Party Services. We encourage you to carefully review the privacy policies of any Third-Party Services you access.
The App may also contain links to other websites. These links and plug-ins are for your convenience. Websites linked to and from the App are not necessarily under the control of Trope MC and we shall have no responsibility or liability whatsoever for the content or privacy practices of any linked websites, or any link or linking program at any time. You should read and understand Trope MC’s policies with respect to such third-party links, as stated in the Terms and Conditions of the App.
Security. The App has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control.
Effective Date and Changes. This privacy policy is effective as of September 1, 2026. Trope MC reserves the right to modify the terms of this Privacy Policy at any time and in its sole discretion, by posting a change notice on this page. YOUR CONTINUED USE OF THE APP FOLLOWING OUR POSTING OF A CHANGE NOTICE WILL CONSTITUTE BINDING ACCEPTANCE OF THOSE CHANGES.
